Newspapers
1.    What are the different ways people get news?
Numerous ways, like mass media, newspaper and internet. And apart from these, we can also get info from other people, especially gossip.
2.    What types of news do you like?
It depends on different period, for now, I hope it would be better to raise the interest rate, and a fall in tuition fee. But after I start to work then I would hope the interest could fall in order to pay a smaller interest on the mortgage.
3.    Do you think children like (= are interested in) the news? (Why?/Why not?)
I’m afraid not…because for a 10-year old child, I suppose they don't even know what the news is, but for a more than 10 year old child I suppose they would be interested in the new of new games available, like Sony play station.
4.    Are old people and young people interested in the same (kinds of) news?
I’m afraid not, and I suppose geriatric people probable don't even care about news, because what they need to do is to enjoy their live, there won’t be many things left they need to care about. But young people need to strive for a promising future, so they need to exploit the news in order to extend personal interest.
5.    How does the news affect people?
It influences the decisions people might make. For example, if the cash rate is going to rise, then most individuals would fix their interest rate for mortgage in order to pay a smaller amount of interest.
6.    Do you often read newspapers?
Seldom did I read it. Because for me I’d prefer browse website to obtain news, because I reckon it would be more timely than the newspapers.
7.    Which do you prefer reading, magazines or newspapers?
It depends on the purpose of my reading. For example, if I am writing an academic article, then I would prefer specialised magazines on one area. But if I just want to kill my time, then newspaper is a better choice, because it is less weighty.
8.    Do you think it's important to read newspapers? (Why?/Why not?)
Not really, because there are many other alternatives to acquire information or news, such as internet or TV. So its significance diminishes somewhat compared to the past.
9.    Why do (you think) people read newspapers?
The main reason would be acquire information I suppose. And the experience from flipping through newspapers is better than watching electronic editions.
10.  What are some methods that newspapers use to attract readers?
Well, I don't know what the practise here, but back in china, the press usually sell their newspapers in a package, like 10% discount for subscribing a year or with additional gifts.
11.  What influence do you think newspapers have on society?
In the past it did have a huge impact on forming people’s views, like china and Soviet Union, but now its significance diminishes a little bit due to the highly developed technology in the modern world.
