IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - uni subjects

2.Some people student should learn all the subjects equally at school. However, others believe that they should learn something they are good at and have interests in. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.

Education system varies from one place to another. Equally varied are the positions people take on what subjects should be taught. Some individuals argue that it would be better for students to learn what they are skilled for, while others maintain that all subjects should be taught. This essay will discuss both point of views.

People who favour the unequal emphasis on subjects are based on the notion that not all courses are essential, especially those science subjects. Take Qian zhongshu, who was a famous Chinese writer, for example, he only scored 15% in the Mathematics in College Entrance Examination and was still accepted by Peking University in 1930s. It is readily discernible from this example that one can achieve his potential even without a well-rounded knowledge. Thus, it is clear why some people gravitate towards this point of view.

Nevertheless, opponents believe that those individuals are minority, and it would be detrimental to the majority should they only focus on the subjects they interested in. For instance, most young people cannot decide what their occupations will be, and there is high chance that their interests might vary as they grow. Consequently, it is vital for them to have a sound fundamental knowledge beforehand. Therefore, this argument is hard to debunk.

To recapitulate, after analysing the two arguments above, it is clear that the second point of view is more plausible for the majority. Consequently, it is assumed that most educational institutions, especially primary ones, will emphasis equally on all subjects.
